Our Story

The Capyton
I’m married, don’t use social media, and my days of dating are long behind me, so why Datepals?
Datepals started because I knew too many good people who were single. At the start, I really didn’t plan on creating a company. Dating startups always seemed super weird, with scammy, socially-unaware founders and products that just don’t work.

Instead, Datepals began after three of my friends, in different conversations, stated they had come to terms with not being able to find a life partner. Three, smart, kind, attractive people, who emotionally declared they had fully given up on dating and were convinced they were the problem. After the 3rd person in one week, I wondered, “What the hell is going on in dating?”

Now some context, I got my MBA from the University of Chicago, and prior to Datepals, my job involved contrarian & black swan event hedging with options. So, after the 3rd friend, I decided I’d get to the bottom of why dating was so messed up “hedge-fund analyst” style. The more I dug, the worse it got:

Datepals was created after a year of research and consultations with the leading relationship science experts all on one question: how can you best take care of your single friends? Maybe it was the phones, or maybe the apps, but somewhere along the way we forgot the importance of friends and family and made dating into a one-player game. Dating is supposed to be fun and social, not a soul sucking job on a subscription–it’s time we all relearned that.
I hope our product helps your friends and family as much as it has helped mine, and please, whether you use our product or not:
